BAKER, June
Born 16 May 1946 in Port Glasgow, Scotland. Died 16 February 2017 in Toronto. Mum, wife, daughter, grandma, sister, sister-in-law, mother-in-law, aunt, gemologist, teacher, gardener, traveller, reader, designer, animal lover, political junkie, culinary wiz, mentor, friend, poet, artist, decorator, generous and kind matriarch, our mum. June immigrated to Canada in 1952 with her parents John Brownlee (deceased 1965), Robina McMaster (2008) and her brother Iain (2013). She grew up in Midland, Ontario and spent most of her adult life raising a family while living with her Foreign Service spouse in eight foreign countries. While in Bangkok, June graduated from the Asian Institute of Gemological Sciences and qualified as a Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain. In retirement, June lived in her country home with her gardens in Kemptville, Ontario and continued to travel widely. In 2009, she moved to downtown Toronto to be close to most of her family. June is survived by her husband of 51 years, John, and her beloved children Allyson of Vancouver, Angela and Neil (April) of Toronto, her cherished grandson Adam, her sister-in-law, Ann Brownlee, nephew Scott Brownlee, niece Jackie Tinkler, and brothers-in-law Scott Baker and Blair Mascall. At June’s request, there will be a private cremation and later interment in Midland. The family wish to thank the outstanding care, empathy and support received from the Princess Margaret Palliative Care Unit. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Princess Margaret Foundation (for Palliative Care) would be appreciated.
