Bert peacefully passed away September 13, 2022. The loving husband of 66 years to his “darlin’” Hilde (Dierkis), is predeceased by his sister Irmgard, and survived by his brother Gerhard, sisters Linda and Heide. Dear father to Rosemary (Ramzi) Henein, and Andrew (Tracey) Hoerner. Cherished Opa to Lisa (Tyler), Mark (Leigh Anne), Alex, Emma and Dylan and proud Uropa of James and Anna.

Born on May 9, 1933 in Daxlanden near Karlsruhe, Germany, Bert immigrated to Canada as a teen. In Toronto, under Jack Tolchard’s mentorship, he became a plumber and eventually took over and grew the business, later with his son Andrew. Bert loved to work hard and encouraged others to do the same. A lover of nature, Bert seemed most at peace at the cottage that he built by Lake Scugog. It became a second home to his children and grandchildren; a place where he enjoyed fishing and entertaining family and friends, with perhaps a glass of wine (or two).

The family would like to extend many thanks to Dr. Kazarian (one of the Medical Associates of Port Perry) and her staff for the exceptional care provided to Bert since his retirement and to the doctors, nurses and staff at Markham-Stouffville Hospital for supporting him in his final days.
