Boyko, Stephen

Peacefully on July 2nd, 2021, at the age of 85, Steve passed away at Scarborough General Hospital, in Scarborough, Ontario

Born on March 3, 1936, to the late Michael and Katherine Boyko,

he was both a loving and respectful son.

As a beloved brother to the late Peter and the late Vera, they enjoyed each other’s company and shared their love of Country and Blue Grass music. With Pete & Steve on guitar, many late nights were spent together as friends, filling the room with laughter and song.

As a father, he loved unconditionally and he was truly, loved dearly.

Lovingly referred to as ‘boyk’, the close relationship he shared with his devoted children, Lisa (Ray), Kerri (Greg), Stephen (Ctéphan) Jr. (Lynne) and Erin (Alan) will be sadly and forever missed.

As a Grandpa, he was one-of-a-kind.

Remembered for his dear and gentle ways, the grandkids enjoyed his company and were more than eager to top up his beer. He will be loved forever, by Carlee (Ken), Reid, Elgin, Gregory and David.

As family, for over 60 years Steve will be fondly remembered by former spouse and dear friend Maxine Edwards, his Sister-in-law Heather, and nephews Michael, Marty, Myles and Peter Jr. Boyko.

As a friend, Steve was always a ‘regular’ and a friendly face, at his local pubs. He enjoyed the social aspect, a cold beer and a favorite bar stool.

Most were drawn to his carefree and jovial personality, allowing him to cross many paths and make friendships along the way. Cheers to all at his locals!

Steve was born in Ukraine, and at the tender age of three months, the Boyko family made their way to Canada, where they eventually settled on their farm in the heart of Scarborough. Together they worked the land and their Farm became home.

As years passed, the family grew as did land development, hence, the family moved to Atlee Ave., in Cliffside Village, an area, that to this day, continues to be part of the Boyko history.

Blessed with a creative mind and a keen eye for detail, Steve became a talented Advertising Photographer, and soon started his own business, ‘The Photographers’.

His studio was located in the historic Toronto Carpet Manufacturing building on Mowat Ave. in Liberty Village, Toronto. With his easy-going charm, and a diverse portfolio, too long to mention, he earned much respect for his work and creativity, while successfully operating his business for 40 + years.

Upon retirement, at the urging of close friend, the late, Allan Caird, Steve found a brotherly interest in the Masonic Lodge, which proved to be a natural fit.

So much so, that in 1995, Steve held the prestigious position as Master of St. George Masonic Lodge #367

In later years, along with brother Pete, and son-in-law Ray, Steve joined the Stock team, and operated a Stock School Bus for children with special needs. He drove his ‘little darlings’ with care and sheer delight for 12 years and found this part of his life to be very rewarding.

With continued pride and dedication, in all he did, Steve managed to fulfill all his dreams with dignity and we hope his memory will be kept alive, by all who had the pleasure to know and love him.

The Boyko family would like to extend their many thanks and gratitude, to Dr. Marcus and the Nursing team on Tower 7. The dedicated and outstanding care they provided is so greatly appreciated.

A family service and internment for Steve will be held at Pine Hills Cemetery, in Scarborough, Ontario.
