Charles Edwin Dawson

Charles Edwin Dawson, 94 of Toronto died peacefully surrounded by family on March 28, 2024 at Sunnybrook Veterans Centre.
Charles was born June 18, 1929 to Jean Morrison Hay and Edwin James Percy Dawson in Toronto, ON. After school, Charles served in the Royal Canadian Navy as a stoker for 6 years. He returned to Toronto and married Annabelle Hele on January 27, 1956 and they welcomed four daughters Katherine, Helen, Mary and Nancy. Charles retired as a Staff Sergeant from the Metro Toronto Police Service after serving 33+ years. He was an avid and exceptionally talented woodworker and sailor, building and sailing four boats in his lifetime. His multifaceted talents also included building a cottage, crafting furniture, cooking, wine and beer making, woodturning, and fishing. Charles is survived by his Daughters Katherine (Stephen), Helen (James), Mary (Doug), Nancy (Kevin), grandchildren Charlotte, Angela, Ryan, Rory, Alex, and Carol, and, by his 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Edwin and Jean, his brother Donald, and wife Annabelle. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family would like to extend a huge thank you to the staff at Sunnybrook Veterans Centre for all of the wonderful care to “Charlie” over the last few years. Your compassion will always be remembered by us. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Sunnybrook Veterans Centre.
