Else Elisabeth Dwarte
How to measure a mother’s love,
a Depth that has no bounds.
It comforts and renews
shapes and strengthens.
And surprises.
God has called you home
But you are never far from us
In the joys of our memories
And the peace in our hearts.
Else’s journey began in Germany, where she was fortunate to survive the war. As a young adult she left for England, working as an Au Pair in London and improving her English. Later, her sights turned to Canada, joining the steady stream of newcomers to Toronto. Married and with two boys, she would later call these days some of the happiest of her life. Caring for children and home, while striving to make ends meet was no easy challenge at the time. Yet a lifetime of hard work and fiscal soundness will be remembered well. Else proved resilient in the face of the loss of those things she held most dear, while her positive spirit and her faith carried her firmly to the better days that followed. She witnessed her two children grow and come into their own, all the while providing the support that “Once a mother, always a mother” is known for. A heartfelt thanks to St. Michael’s Hospital and the many doctors, nurses and support staff everywhere who helped her in the final stages of her journey.
Peacefully in her 84th year. Cremation has taken place. Gifts in her memory can be made to St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation.
