Hilde (née Dierkis) peacefully passed away on January 15, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by Bert, her husband of 66 years, and is survived by her sister, Agnes Dizig. Dear mother to Rosemary (Ramzi) Henein and Andrew (Tracey) Hoerner. Cherished Oma to Lisa (Tyler), Mark (Leigh Anne), Alex, Emma, and Dylan, and proud Uroma to James and Anna.
Hilde was born on September 22, 1934, in the rural town of Rösebeck in Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany, where she made many friends, some of them for life. As a teen, she immigrated to Canada along with her sister and parents. Upon her arrival in Toronto, she met the love of her life. She worked hard initially to support her parents and then, with her husband, to grow the plumbing business. All the while raising two children and maintaining a household.
Hilde’s kind and cheerful disposition affected all who came to know her. She always had a story, joke, or song to contribute backed by charming smile. She was a wonderful cook and hostess, and she loved to entertain at her house and at the cottage on Lake Scugog. Hilde became known to all as Oma and wholeheartedly embraced that role. Her dedication to her family knew no bounds and her love knew no limit. Underneath her nurturing exterior, Oma possessed an unwavering strength and dedication that was the backbone of the family.
The family would like to extend many thanks to Dr. Kazarian and her staff for the exceptional care provided to Hilde over the years and to the staff and nurses at Chartwell Pickering City Centre Retirement Residence and Orchard Villa Long Term Care.
