On January 10th, 2025 Jakob Howard English of the city of Toronto, died suddenly at the age of 65 years.
He was predeceased by two long time companions/spouses Jack Finlayson and David Bzdel.
Jake was born and lived in Toronto, his entire life. In his early teens, his residence was a boy's group home off of Broadview Avenue. He took college courses in food preparation and food safety, then held a long time career with VIA Rail Canada, under his birth name, Robert Howard English.
Jake was a proud supporter of the 2SLGBTQ+ people and for many years was a dedicated participant in the Toronto Leather Community, working to ensure equal rights for those of different sexual gender and identities. Over a time span of decades, he has volunteered at the Toronto PWA Foundation, and the 519 Community Centre. Jake had 'chosen families', that he now leaves behind. These families include a very wide collection of caring, ex-partners, long time friends (even from early school days) and neighbours. He is remembered from within all these 'families' and the 2SGBTQ+ community, for his kind, generous, loving and open heart. Rest in peace with our gratitude and love.
Memorial donations may be made to Jake's chosen community agencies. The 519 Community Centre, Toronto PWA and Casey House.
A celebration of Jake's life will be announced at a later date.
