With great sadness we announce the passing of Jim Falkingham on January 6, 2025. Jim passed peacefully, with his family by his side, at Michael Garron Hospital in Toronto, Ontario.
Jim will be greatly missed by his wife Gwen, son Chris (Poornima), daughter Melissa (Durwin) and his twin grandchildren Colton and Brooklyn. He also leaves behind his sister Debbie (Bill) and brother Robert (Maureen) along with numerous nieces and nephews and their children. He was predeceased by his wonderful parents, Carrie and Stanley.
Jim was born on May 3, 1945, in Hamilton, Ontario. His early years were spent living in Saskatchewan and helping his parents on the farm. In 1959, they moved to Winnipeg where there were more teaching opportunities for his parents. He met Gwen while working at Standard Aero in 1966 and they got married in 1969. In 1974, they built their beautiful home in East St. Paul, Manitoba. They lived there for 42 years before they moved to Toronto to be with their children and grandchildren.
Jim was an incredible Industrial Arts teacher in the St. James-Assiniboia School Division for over 10 years. His attention to detail, hands-on approach and desire to learn made him a jack of all trades, master of none (well actually a master of quite a few). He left teaching to become a Financial Planner, practicing for over 15 years before he retired in 2002.
Jim was an incredibly supportive and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He worked hard to give his family an amazing life, full of experiences and opportunities. He took pride in everything he did. He was always available when his children needed help, whether it was fixing things, advice or picking up his grandchildren from school and taking them to activities. He was so proud of his children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments. He had a passion for cars, motorcycles and gadgets. He also loved animals, playing the guitar and listening to country music. His grandson continues his passion and talent for music.
There will be no service. This obituary will be our tribute to a wonderful and caring husband, father and grandfather. We will miss him very much!
