October 20, 1930 – September 16, 2022
James (Jim) McNamee of Calgary, died peacefully with his family by his side at The Millwood Retirement Residence, on September 16th in his 91st year.
James was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, on October 20, 1930 (10-20-30). He moved with his family to Calgary in 1939, where he attended Holy Angels and St. Mary’s Boys School. James then attended the University of Toronto where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts (‘54) and then went on to do his law degree at the University of Alberta graduating in the class of 1960. James initially practiced law in Calgary and then moved to Toronto where he continued to practice for many years. In 1987, James moved to Los Angeles for its more agreeable climate. He passed the California Bar and continued to practice law until 2007. James’s love of travel, showing visiting family and friends the sites, enjoying long car rides up the California coast and bicycle rides on “The Strand” kept him busy in his later years.
James leaves behind many dear friends from across Canada and the United States who were extremely supportive over the years. James is survived by his brothers Donald (Joan) of Kamloops, BC, William (Betty) of Calgary, his sisters Wanda Theriault of Calgary and Jean Quirin of Toronto and by numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Jim was predeceased by his parents Sarah and James McNamee, his brother Father John McNamee and his brothers in-law George Theriault and David Quirin.
Special thanks and heartfelt appreciation goes out to the Palliative Care Team at Michael Garron Hospital, the caring teams at the Millwood Retirement Residence, Temmy Latner Centre and Community Care Assess Centres (CCAC) who took such wonderful care of James in his final months. Also a special thank you to Dr. Jamie Meuser, Joan (CCAC), Father Francis and Sandra (MGH) and Fe and Amy for being so helpful and supportive of James.
In keeping with James’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a family Mass will be held in Calgary, Alberta, at a later date. James will then be laid to rest along side his parents at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Calgary.
