KALIOPI THEOHAR
February 20, 1915 – February 14, 2021
Kaliopi died calmly and peacefully 6 days before her 106th Birthday.
Beloved mother of Ruth Playfair and Boris Theohar (Jacquie Gillies), adored and adoring grandmother of Joseph Playfair and the late Emma Playfair, she was predeceased by her husband Norman Theohar (1973) and her son, Dr Carl Theohar (2018).
Kaliopi loved to garden and her backyard became a favorite place for her great-grandchildren (children of Emma and Chris) – Will, Palmer and Jack – to play soccer, bat a ball, or hunt Easter eggs. Her beloved cat Maya also liked to roam about the bushes and bird feeders.
The tall trees and many flowers and statues in her garden always provided a welcome sanctuary where the family would gather on summer afternoons.
Kaliopi loved to crochet hats and doilies and blankets and gave them generously to those who came to her home. For many years she was a creative cook and hosted many family celebrations.
Kaliopi was able to fulfill her wish to remain in her home until the last few days of her life thanks to her family and the dedicated and compassionate support of Dr Aliya Hirani, nurse Susie Cuperfain and PSW Christy Cultura. We are forever grateful to them and their teams.
Kaliopi died peacefully on Valentine’s Day at Sunnybrook hospice, under the compassionate care of Dr Debbie Selby, many kind nurses, and the prayers of Chaplain John Zamiska.
Be in the Light, mother.
