Bonnie Kiddell
With heavy hearts the family of Bonnie Lynn Kiddell (née King) of Toronto, Ontario, announces her passing on July 10, 2021. Bonnie died peacefully at Toronto General Hospital due to complications with ovarian cancer. By her side was her loving husband of 34 years, Alan Kiddell.
Bonnie is survived by Alan and her children: Chris Haigh (Rebecca), Jason Haigh (Heather), and Kathyrn Kiddell (Travis). As a loving grandmother, “Nana” will also be greatly missed by all her grandchildren: Cody, Cheyenne, Aidan, Liam, and Roan, and by her great-grandchildren: Desiree, Silas, and Nevaeh.
Bonnie was born in Peterborough, Ontario, on August 29, 1951, to the late Lawrence and Margaret King (née Soles). She will be dearly missed by the families of her siblings: Lance King (Sue), Scott King (Debbie), and Shelly King, and by the families of her brothers-in-law: John Kiddell (Betty Anne), Doug Kiddell, and Rob Kiddell (Melissa).
Alan and Bonnie met while working at Lakefield College School where they were married in the school’s chapel. They moved to Toronto in 1989 when Bonnie started her career in hospital administration working at St. Michael’s Hospital. Bonnie’s expertise, specifically in accounts receivables and patient registration, led to a fulfilling career that saw her make many colleagues and friends through her time at Riverdale Hospital, Mount Sinai, and then finally the University Health Network where she retired in 2017.
The Bonster loved life and lived it to its fullest. She loved entertaining family and friends at Lake of the Woods or exploring that little restaurant around the corner. Bonnie touched so many with her beautiful smile and warm, kind heart. Even after her diagnosis, Bonnie never viewed cancer as a fight or a battle but a bump in the road to be overcome so that she would have more time to live. Trips to the UK to see the Rolling Stones or organizing family vacations to Florida, the UK, Italy, and St. Lucia are what motivated her to seek another day. This world is a wondrous place, and she wanted to see it all and share that with those close to her. Jan and Doug Whitford, thank you for your loving friendship and for being on many of these adventures. She loved you both dearly. On deck was a family trip to Costa Rica; she simply wanted more time with family and friends.
Bonnie saw the best in everyone, especially her grandchildren. She believed in them and encouraged their passions. She beamed when they had successes and supported them during challenges. And she always welcomed more time with them. From weekly family dinners to month-long stays at Lake of the Woods, Bonnie’s grandchildren built a special bond with their Nana, something that they will carry with them forever.
The family is so grateful to the staff of Toronto General Hospital and the doctors and staff at Princess Margaret Hospital who all helped her so much over the last four years. The compassion and care she received is beyond words, and she appreciated you all.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Ovarian Cancer Canada, The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation or True North Aid.
Offer Condolence for the family of Bonnie Kiddell
