Michael Claude Brannan
On Tuesday July 16 2019, Michael Claude Brannan, loving husband, father, grandfather
and great-grandfather, passed away at age 80.
Michael was born on August 19, 1938 in Calgary Alberta to Claude and Lilya (Johnson)
Brannan. When he was a young boy his family moved East but Alberta remained a
draw for him as he travelled there to work in the summertime as a young man.
He graduated with Honours in Business from the University of Western Ontario in 1960.
While attending university he met his future bride, Mary Lou Edwards on a blind date.
They knew they were meant to be, and were married in 1960. They spent 60+ years
together, raising three children, Stephen , Kathleen, and Patrick.
From his days with John Deere, through the 25 years he spent at the family business,
Harry Edwards Appliances, and into his semi-retired years working with Tech Can,
Michael put his keen business sense to work.
Michael had a passion for reading and always had a book nearby. He also loved to bird
watch. He particularly enjoyed doing so while sitting on the porch at The Farm, a
beautiful family vacation property. In his younger years, Michael was an avid
outdoorsman, going on many fishing and hunting trips with family and friends. He was
also a licensed airplane pilot and at one time owned a Piper Cub airplane.
Michael was known for his sharp mind, mysterious smile, and great story-telling- often
accompanied by a good belly-laugh. He loved quietly and deeply.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Claude, mother, Lilya, and his sister, Bea.
He is survived by his wife Mary Lou, their three grown children, Stephen ( Michele),
Kathleen (Charles) and Patrick (Heidi), eight grand-children and three greatgrandchildren.
He is also survived by his brother, Dennis.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday July 21st, 2019 at New Hamburg Christian
Centre, 177 Jacob St, New Hamburg at 3 o’clock pm .
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Grand River Hospital Foundation in
Michael’s name.
