Olivia Matchuk
It is with great sadness in our hearts that Olivia Matchuk, known as ‘Ollie’, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Friday, September 4th, 2020, at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Ontario.
Born January 28, 1943 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, to Steve and Mary Macuick, Ollie was the youngest of eleven children. She lived in Regina until her early twenties then, with a zest for life and sense of adventure, she chose and moved to Toronto and remained there until her passing. She held many different jobs while she discovered her new surroundings and retired from McLaren McCann Advertising after long-term employment. Ollie made many good friendships over the years, she knew so many people, and her outgoing nature made it impossible not to love her! Always wanting to have fun, she enjoyed going out on the weekends to the clubs and/ or concerts, one of her favourite spots was ‘Grossmans Tavern’. Those who came to visit her were lucky to have been taken there on Saturday afternoon for their weekly Dixieland’ gigs, then having dinner in Chinatown. Definitely a style icon, she always had a flair for fashion, and really rocked every outfit she wore, including her collection of many hats!
Predeceased by her parents, Steve and Mary, brothers Peter and John, sisters Elsie, Anne, Katherine, Martha, she leaves to mourn brothers Andrew and Matt (Victoria), sisters Jane (SK) and Lena (AB). She leaves to mourn very special nieces and nephews, Gail (BC), Cheryl, Brenda, Steve, Lorrie, (SK), Wendy (AB), Brent, Bonita (SK), Kelvin (BC), Livia (SK), Kenneth (CA-US), Patricia (OR-US), Connie, (AB), Lillian, Barney, Sandra, Darrel, Harve (SK), Marion (AB), Lovern, Barry, Daniel, Gordon (SK), Clifford (AB), and numerous great nieces and nephews. Long-time friends and their families: Vivienne, Elois, Cynthia, Nancy, Fern, Ches, Dalis, Heidi and Warner, Jeff, Helen, Hank, Steve, Sandy and Carlos, Mike, Tony and Jane, Doug (ON), John B (BC), Marie and John (Ireland), JoAnne (US, Bermuda), June (Bermuda), Saroo (Trinidad), Maureen (England), other numerous Raglan Avenue neighbours, friends.
There was no service at Ollie’s request; cremation with burial to follow in Saskatchewan at a later date. Those who passed before you are with you now. ’Toodles’ Ollie: you will be missed.
