Riddell, Gordon Grant

Born February 8, 1959. It is with heavy hearts, we announce the loss of Gordon, who, at age 62, succumbed to complications of Diabetes on Wednesday, February 3, 2022 at Scarborough General Hospital in Toronto, Ontario. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the amazing team of nurses and doctors for their support and great care provided.

Gord was born in Montreal, Quebec in 1959, and moved to Brantford, Ontario with his family in the 1960’s, and finally to Scarborough in the early 1970’s, where he put down his roots. Gord was a strong, loving man, who often chose to look on the humourous side of life. Gord graduated from L’Amoreaux Collegiate and later from the Business Management program at Seneca College.

Gord spent some time, as a young man, installing windows, most notably in Toronto’s Royal York Hotel, before building his career in the Transport Industry through a variety of roles. He started out as a courrier, putting his great sense of direction and knowledge of Toronto to good use, working at first for Mantran, then Purolator, and eventually at FedEx. He made the logical transition from Courrier to Manager at FedEx, jointly overseeing operations at the Nugget location and continuing on to design, set up, and oversee the FedEx Peterborough Hub.  In the latter part of his career, Gord’s free spirit had him yearning to get out from behind a desk and back behind the wheel. As a result, he took on a new role in long haul transport, driving a rig to various points across Canada and USA. Gord loved to share his many amusing, and sometimes hair raising, stories of his travels and adventures out on the road. He would regale us with traversing steep Mountain passes in blizzards to enviable visits to the warmer climates of Florida and California, all while we lived vicariously through his travels during our reality of -25 Canadian winters!! Gord had that universally recognized transport identifier, of an ever so well and permanently tanned left arm, that only hours out on the road can cultivate!!

Gord was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, in his day, in addition to street riding, he loved offroading/trail riding and attending supercross races. His other passions included Family, music, movies, travelling, and camping with family and friends at Riverwood Park in the town of Lindsay, Kawartha Lakes. Anyone that knew him understood Gord possessed a life long enjoyment of games evolving from Monopoly and RISK, to arcade pinball and video games, and eventually gaming consoles and computer games. He truly loved them all!!

Gord appreciated humour, and like his Dad before him, had an endless supply of “Dad’s” groan-worthy jokes!!

Gord had a deep love for his family! He was a loving husband, father, brother, son and friend. Gord was predeceased by his parents Marilyn and Gord Sr., and mother-in-law Marilyn. Gordon is survived by the love of his life, his loving wife Judy, and his loving sons David and Ryan who remain his proudest legacy!!! Gord is also survived by his loving sisters Beverly, and Jennifer (Mike), and sister-in-law Sally (Dennis) as well as neices and nephews Winston, Melanie (Mark), Michael (Amber), and his many beloved Aunts, Uncles, and cousins.

Gordon will be forever missed by his loving family and friends.

Services will be limited to immediate family, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a future date (still to be determined).

In lieu of flowers, family thanks you, and instead asks that donations be made to Diabetes Canada.
