Ronald Thomas Wallace, 88 years. (known to many as Uncle Ron or Ronnie) slipped from life here on earth and entered eternity on Sat. November. 9 th after a battle with cancer. Ron is survived by his son Benjy, (Julie) grandson Taylor, daughter Pamela Wallace, sister-in- law Ronnett, (Steve), nephew Terry and niece Laura Nikolevski. He is also survived by his best friend Joe Evans and his family.
Little is known about his childhood, as he was put in foster care from birth. He had several foster homes (all in Toronto) and later was under the care of Mr. & Mrs. McKay. When Ron was in his early 20’s, he moved in with their daughter, Doreen and her husband Morley Evans. He became involved in Sunday School and youth at Stone Church, downtown, and later became a member of Highway Gospel Church when Doreen and Morley moved to Scarborough.
In March of 1973, Ron attended a conference where he gave his heart to Jesus AND locked eyes with the love of his life, Maxine Mary McGregor (predeceased in 2009). By June they were engaged and were married in September. Ron was a dedicated employee of Wagner Signs until they closed and continued with Centercore Signs until he retired well into his 70’s.
Ron enjoyed family life; lots of time in Northern Ontario, many road trips to the USA, NFLD and even a 2 nd honeymoon in Hawaii. He followed all the Toronto sports teams, especially his Toronto Maple Leafs. GO LEAFS GO!
Highway Gospel was his 2 nd home for over 60 years. Ron served on the Board, ushered, was a small group and men’s group participant for years, and will be fondly remembered for his taxi service picking up neighbourhood children for their mid-week programs and drove many other people who needed assistance with rides. It was always an honour for him to minister in this way until he had to give up his drivers license because of bad eyesight.
Ron never wavered from his faith, even in his darkest days. He had the hope as a follower of Jesus Christ, that he would see his beloved Maxine once he entered eternity, and we know by faith that greeting took place. He will be dearly missed by family and friends and will be remembered for his gentle, kind and generous spirit, and also for his sense of humour and especially for his wonderful unique laugh!
