Ronald Whelan

March 16, 1957 — August 19, 2024

Ronald (Ron) Whelan, age 67, passed away on Monday, August 19 th , 2024, at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto. Ron was born on March 16 th , 1957, in Colliers, Newfoundland into a busyhome full of many beloved siblings. He spent his youth in his cherished Conception Bay alongside his second family, the Lewis’, before moving to Toronto as an adult. He entered into a partnership with Mary Mollison, and together they lovingly cared for their children Robert and Tara. In the years that followed, he and Mary had Ronald and Arlene, and the two of them raised their family both in Newfoundland and successfully as co-parents in Toronto. He worked devotedly in construction management alongside his colleagues and friends, who were like family, until his passing.

Ron is remembered for his generosity of spirit; his friends, his neighbours, and Mary’s youngest daughter, Margaret, all knew that Ron welcomed them as family. He was a well-loved member of the Toronto Beaches neighbourhood and Gabby’s, the community in which he spent the last decades of his life. Ron had a talent for cooking comforting holiday meals and for surprising his loved ones with his golf skills. He will be missed for his wry sense of humor, his stubbornness, fierce loyalty and his bright smile.

Ron is survived by his family and friends—including his surviving brothers and sisters (Bernie Parsons, Gerry Whelan, Exie Arsenault, Jim Whelan, Richard Whelan, Matt Whelan, Kim Whelan, Lorena Whelan), his four children and their mother, his 16 grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and his best friend Darrell Lewis, along with all of the other Lewis’—and they will forever carry with them their deep love and admiration.
