Leonard Gordon Yates
It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of Leonard Gordon Yates at Hawthorn Woods Community Care, Brampton on January 18th, at the age of 85, following a valiant battle with Covid.
Born in New Toronto, the son of Nelson and Florence Yates, and brother to Nelson (Buster), James (Jimmy) (deceased), Marjorie, and Edith (deceased).
Leonard will be intensely missed by Gail (nee MacDonald), his loving wife of 40 years who was at his side daily since his admission to Hawthorn in 2019. They spent their married life in Brampton and they truly were the love of each other’s lives.
Leonard spent his work life as a Sales Manager in the transportation trailer industry. He began his career at Fruehauf Trailer, then moved to Can Car Trailers, and finally Mond Industries. He retired 25 years ago. One of his favourite retirement memories was the time that he and Gail were able to spend at their cottage in Lonesome Pine Resort on Pigeon Lake, Bobcaygeon.
A devoted father and grandfather he will be greatly missed by sons Lawrence and Brett and step-daughter Judy (Patrick), and by grandchildren Brittany (the apple of his eye), Crystal, Kelly, and Nathan.
A dear brother-in-law to Sheila, Juanita (deceased) and Wanda. A caring Grandfather to his 6 great-grandchildren and wonderful Uncle to his many nieces and nephews.
The family extends their sincere thanks to the staff at Hawthorn Woods who provided exceptional care. He loved and was much-loved by his nurses Lucky and Bennis, and his PSWs who he called his angels. Thanks as well to family doctor Dr Ling Ling Huang (Mississauga) and Leonard’s “girls” Ann and Anna at Rexall and Janet at TD Bank.
He will be deeply missed by special friends Trevor and Diane, and Pat and Fred.
Devoted to family Leonard found his greatest joy with being with his. He will be remembered for his genuinely kind and giving spirit. He was a man who was always there for you; a man with a heart of gold; a strong supportive husband and friend to Gail; a mentor to his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews; a man who could always make you laugh and smile.
Rest in peace Leonard, you have touched our hearts and we will always remember you with love.
Due to the pandemic, cremation is scheduled and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to
